Cereals
When the time is right to start a baby on solid foods, our cereals make the transition easy
Introducing Solids
Our rice cereal is an excellent choice for introducing solid foods to babies. These rice cereals have a smooth texture and are easy for babies to digest.
According to pediatric experts, solid foods may be offered to healthy babies at six months of age. Individual babies vary, so only an infant's pediatrician can determine the best age for parents to introduce solid foods.
A baby may be ready for solid foods if he or she:
- Can sit without support
- Can turn his or her head away when full
- Has doubled his or her birth weight
Rice cereal is an excellent first food since it is least likely to cause an allergic reaction. After a period of doing well on Rice cereal, try Oatmeal cereal.
Many doctors recommend avoiding fruit juices before age six months. Consult a physician before mixing cereal with fruit juice.
Learning to eat from a spoon is a new and difficult experience for babies. Most of the first feedings are likely to end up in places other than the child's mouth. If the baby thrusts most of the food out or cries and turns away, return to nursing or infant formula for a week before introducing solids again.
