This cow’s milk–based infant formula contains all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients required for healthy development and is suitable for most term infants during the first year. It also contains the lipids DHA and ARA, two nutrients naturally found in breast milk that are associated with mental and visual development.

Term Formulas

Often called “term formula,” milk–based formulas with iron are the most commonly used formulas.  According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), normal, full-term infants can use a conventional cow’s milk–based formula with confidence.  Other infants sometimes require specialty formulas because of early birth, low-birth weight, allergies, or other complications that may arise during the first year of development. 

Regular milk–based formulas with DHA and ARA contain all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are required by the FDA.  Not only do these formulas meet the FDA’s requirements, but they have also been clinically proven to provide healthy, complete nutrition for infants during their first year of life.

The Important Lipids: DHA and ARA

DHA and ARA occur naturally in breast milk and belong to a class of nutrients called lipids, or fats. Lipids are an essential part of a healthy diet because they are important structural components of vital organs, particularly an infant's brain and eyes.

Interest in DHA and ARA has increased following several scientific studies showing that infants fed formula supplemented with DHA and ARA gained intellectual and visual benefits not found in infants who were fed standard formulas without DHA and ARA.
